On February 24th, Aidan Laughery announced on Twitter that he had received a scholarship offer from the University of Illinois. This is a big local offer and one that could pay dividends down the road.
Laughery is a 5-foot-11, 183-pound running back from Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley (GCMS) High School. After offering him, the entire Illinois staff made the trip to Gibson City earlier last month to dine at one of the town’s restaurants in an effort to show Laughery that he is a priority target.
On Thursday, Illinois’ Bret Bielema and staff completed a virtual meeting with Aidan Laughery and his family. After his virtual meeting with Illinois. I caught up with the priority target.to talk about his virtual meeting with Illinois. “Really good!” he said. “I love the energy from all the coaches and it feels awesome to be wanted by everybody. Got to see all of the football facilities which are unbelievable.”
He also discussed his biggest takeaways from his meeting with Illinois. “Just that it’s a place I’m going to be taken care of and cared for as well as being able to utilize great tools around me to be the best man and player I can be.” It was a 10 out of 10 Zoom for Aidan Laughery.
Laughery tells me that Illinois, Minnesota, Rutgers, and Washington St are the schools that are clear leaders in his recruitment. He told me this about a possible decision. “No not really. I think I will know when I know and I think I may be close to that point but it will be nice to take my visits hopefully this summer.
Three-star Illinois running back Aidan Laughery has locked in an official visit date to Illinois. He scheduled his official visit to Illinois for June 4th – 6th. He explained why he wants to visit. “Because it’s definitely a top choice for me at this point.” He has been contacted by Illinois commits Joey Okla and Donovan Leary. He said the following about his conversation with the commits: “Good. We just talked about each other’s recruiting and about Illinois. Why they think it’s the move and why I should come too.”
