THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS:
WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOTBALL PLAYER OF ALL TIME AND WHO DO YOU MODEL YOUR GAME AFTER?
“My favorite player is Lamar Jackson. I hope to be just as good as him someday.”
YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL CAREER?
“When we played against Maddison County and they were undefeated. We won 21-20. I scored the game winning TD.”
DID YOU EVER HAVE AN EMBARRASSING MOMENT PLAYING FOOTBALL?
“All the time. We were in a playoff game against Immokalee and they picked me up in the air and carried me across the field during the game.
WHEN DID YOU FIRST REALIZE THAT YOU HAD THE POTENTIAL TO BE A FBS FOOTBALL PLAYER?
“My senior year. I always work hard on off season to prepare for the season. My team was undefeated this year and I believe that some of that is because of my hard work and dedication to always get better. Now I’m going to start preparing for the next level.”
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MOST WHEN YOU HEAD TO ILLINOIS?
“I’m looking forward to competing for a starting job and working hard towards a Big Ten championship.”
A LOOK AT THE RECRUITING PROCESS:
WHAT’S THE MOST UNIQUE THING A COACH SAID OR DID DURING YOUR RECRUITMENT?
“Coach Rod Smith came to my Spring game at Choctawhatchee High School and watched me play the whole game from the sideline. After the game he talk to me and told me how much he liked me at QB and how he could help me at the next level.”
WHAT WAS IT THAT MADE YOU THINK, “ILLINOIS IS THE PLACE FOR ME”?
“I spoke with Coach Smith and other coaches from Illinois every week. They would ask how I was academically first and how I was improving during the season. I went for a visit and that’s when I met some of the players and I felt like they already knew me. They said that Coach Key was always talking about me to them. Overall I thought it was a great environment.”
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT DURING THE RECRUITING PROCESS?
“I went during the game against Wisconsin. It was a great win for the team. After the game was over, I was able to walk back to the locker room and greet fans along the way and as I was giving high fives they would tell me great game and I felt like I was a part of the team. The fans were excited, and I knew this was something that I wanted to be a part of. The celebration in the locker room was even better and they allowed me to celebrate the win with them.”
WHAT WAS THE WORST PART ABOUT THE PROCESS?
“The worse part was knowing that I wanted to go to Illinois all along but not being able to share that with the coaches until I did. I am thankful for all the coaches from other schools that recruited me. It was a great experience but I’m glad that it’s over now so that I can focus on the next chapter of my life.”
WHAT SCHOOL WOULD YOU HAVE CHOSEN IF YOU HADN’T SIGNED WITH THE FIGHTING ILLINI?
“UCF or Louisville.”
DO YOU HAVE A NICKNAME?
“I would like if all articles related to me use the name Deuce Spann instead of Greg Spann. I’m hoping to have that on the roster as well.”
WHAT PERSON, DEAD OR ALIVE, WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH?
“Lamar Jackson. I would like to have dinner with him to see how he felt when people said he couldn’t or wouldn’t be a great QB in NFL. I want to ask how much it motivated him and how great it feels to be considered for MVP.”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE?
HAVE YOU DECIDED ON WHAT YOU WANT TO MAJOR IN AT ILLINOIS?
WHAT NUMBER WOULD YOU LIKE TO WEAR AT TECH AND WHY IS THAT NUMBER SIGNIFICANT TO YOU?
