On November 15, Isaac McKneely, a four-star recruit, announced his top eight, which included West Virginia, Kentucky, Purdue, Louisville, Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana, and Illinois. This is a big list to make for the Illini as McKneely is one of the best from the class of 2022.
McKneely, a 6-foot-4, 170-pound combo guard out of Poca High School in Poca, West Virginia discussed what he liked about Illinois. “The style of play is a great fit for me.” McKneely said. “I’ve built a great relationship with all the coaches as well! Great program, and I think I could do well there.”
Illinois extended an offer to McKneely on July 2 and he has been a top priority on their board in the 2022 class. Illini assistant Stephen Gentry has been the point man in Illinois’ pursuit. He discussed what he liked about Coach Gentry. “Great personality. I get along really well with him, and he has done a great job recruiting me.”
Brad Underwood and the Illini staff had a Zoom with McKneely and his family in July. This what he had to said about Coach Underwood. “Great coach and great person. I’ve built a good relationship with him, and he’s really turned Illinois into a great program!” The Illini love his ability to flat out score. McKneely, who is the top prospect in West Virginia, is a comparison to Tyler Herro.
