After committing to Illinois in February, Arrowhead (WI) three-star offensive lineman Joey Okla was able to get his first look in-person of Illinois. Okla was with his family on a self-guided tour of Champaign and Illinois’ campus today, while he wasn’t able to meet with any coaches while there, Okla and his family loved seeing his future home.
“It was a great day at my future home.” Okla told IlliniPulse. “It was amazing, I loved the campus!”
Things were a bit limited in what the 6-foot-3, 285-pound interior offensive lineman could see while in Champaign, but what they were able to see really impressed both Okla and his family.
“I wasn’t able to get into much but the facilities looked amazing from the outside and it is a beautiful campus.” he said. “I was impressed by the size of the campus and we also got a peek at the stadium which was awesome.”
In the coming months, once the ‘Dead Period’ concludes, Okla has already planned a return to Champaign on a much more in-depth official visit.
He set his official visit for June 4-6 with other prospects. So far, these are the prospects who have confirmed that they are visiting that same weekend with Okla: 3-star Rochester Hank Beatty, 3-star Chicago Marist OL Danny McGuire, three-star GCMS RB Aidan Laughery, three-star Memphis lineman Patrick Kutas, and three-star IMG Academy WR Shawn Miller.
On that return, Okla looks most forward to an in-depth tour of the facility and also meeting some of my hopefully future teammates.
